Because I don’t work, I rarely rush when I send Eu to school.
And I have time to chat with parents of similar schedule like mine. While others may dismiss this as mere gossiping and time-wasting activity, it is networking and can be productive.
We’d exchange ideas and news. We’d remind each other of the kids activities. We’d formed a sort of mom and dad surveillance team – and keep an eye on each other kids.
The best thing is, when there is an incident in school, we’d know it early and this makes it easier for any change in the schedule. Last year, Eu’s class was ordered close and when her teacher called me to pick her up, I was already halfway to school (thanks to a close school-mum friend) and Eu did not have to wait too long for me.
So it’s good to get to know your fellow school parents because there will always be something new to learn, especially from parents with older kids (e.g. why it’s not advisable to send kids early to school).
It’s definitely not always about gossips.
