Burnt Anduki

Despite the unhealthy air quality and lower visibility, driving to and fro Lumut and Seria for the past few days is actually quite interesting.

The large open field around the junction of Lumut and Anduki was burnt badly earlier this week. So all over the area we see trees with leaves turned autumnish-brown. But the most arresting were these patches of ground turned black from the charred grass and brown spindly trees with not a single leaf left.

It’s a desolate sight which Eu said made her feel sad.

To me, it’s actually eeriely beautiful. The kind of surreal sight you’d expect from a dream about the end of the world. Or some nature documentary of some place far far away seen from top of the range home theater system. The colour contrast is amazing and the haze which still shrouds this area gives the whole scene a romantic feel.

Every time I pass this area (4 times in a day), I wish that I have the photography know-how to capture the scene.

No Man's Land In Anduki : Jan Shim

But thanks to Seria photographer, Jan Shim, who braved the smouldering oven-like afternoon today to capture the above gorgeous picture, we now have a memory of how picturesque Anduki was this week.
