Recently my daughter complained that housework is boring.
I explained to her that even though they are not fun, they are necessary. Unless, I warned her, she wants to live in a pigsty – which can sometimes be the state of their room after one of their more imaginative adventures.
A natural tendency to appreciate a tidy and clean house is one of the trait that I hope to instill in them. They don’t do it automatically now but hopefully by making them clean up after their mess all the time, it will slowly become second nature to them.
Besides it’s important that they develop such inclinations now before they reach teenhood and issues like boys or movie stars or acne occupy their mind and attention.
By that time, telling them to clean up when they are not used to doing it will only be blood-level raising moments and I hope this will be something I will be spared from.
