Religion Over Culture

My children’s grandparents are busy with praying and meditating sessions this week. As a result, I had to miss a couple of dinner parties as they are my standby babysitters.

Of course I did feel a little regret but we chose to raise our family without maid and having them willingly look after the kids when they are free is already a huge blessings for us.

Besides they are usually only busy with religious functions and I think it was partly this strong faith that made life for me, who have borne only daughters so far, easy.

Everyday when I walked past the altar at home where beautiful statues of gods and goddess sit on top of a clear glass tile, I am reminded that even though we live in a culture that favours sons, religious beliefs can influence the mind and open the hearts of its followers to accept the law of nature.

That as humans, we can only plan.

While some grandparents acknowledgment of their new grandkids are mere courtesy if they happen to be daughters, mine had the privileges of having their paternal Chinese grandparents fly in to attend their full moon parties in Sabah.

So what is a couple of dinner parties missed. Not when I see how my three daughters are doted and pampered by their grandparents.

Even when they, as some say, are only girls.
