Overweight children are always making the news.
What we seldom hear about is skinny kids. The kind of kids that mothers with chubby kids long to feed and one look from the doctor or nurses almost always mean a prescription for vitamins.
Mothers of skinny kids love to trade dramatic stories of how poor our kids’ appetites are – from one who eats only vegetables to another who takes only fish – to one who tops it all, a child who refuses everything except rice and soup….!
What we would do to make them improve their appetite and we have tried a lot. But we are resigned to the fact that as long as they are healthy, which they are, we shall blame it on genetic that will hopefully outgrow itself.
I was a fat kid and I love fish.
I’ve got skinny kid who seems to love western junk food over rice and one that top it all but still not chubby.
Massy, maybe you like A LOT of fish, ha. But that’s good, very healthy.
Hannie, which kids don’t like junk food but I control that here and they can only get the occasional one or two pieces when the father shares HIS junk food – always with my protest. I think ours are skinny not only because of appetite but also because too active!
“we shall blame it on genetic that will hopefully outgrow itself.” yeah, let’s do that!
I used to complain that my son Eric was skinny, but this year he just seemed to plump himself rather nicely!
I have yet to feel that way about my skinny no. 2 – but crossing fingers it will be soon too
