We brought the kids to see the famed statue of the Merlion on our first family trip to Singapore last year and for a few weeks, Eu was informing everyone at home that the Merlion is “part lion and part mermaid”.

For our trip this year, they insist that we visit the Merlion again and we only indulged them because the alternative is shopping and as you know, that is quite POINTLESS!.
So on our last day in Singapore, we took a taxi ride to the Merlion Park and joined the never ending throngs of visitors.
Across the river from where we were at the park, was the Singapore Flyer and because I wasn’t keen on trying it out, I kept mum when my husband casually remarked that he heard it cost an outrageous $200 a ride and was glad when he didn’t pursue the subject.
Now that I’m safely home, I could find out more on the Singapore Flyer and of course, it’s nowhere that expensive. But I’m still not going for a ride in it.
It was a short trip at the Merlion for us that day. The weather was hazy and after a few shots, we decided to go look for the nearest air-conditioned area and that was the Esplanade.
At the start of a bridge which led to the Esplanade, we saw this vendor selling these strange ice cream on wafer biscuits.
At the end of the bridge, we found another vendor selling the same thing and you can imagine how happy Eu and Qi were when their father got one for us to snack on before we went inside the Esplanade for a while.
That was our visit to the Merlion for this trip.
Eu and Qi were still fascinated by part-lion-part-mermaid statue and until today, Qi will perform her Merlion trick whenever I brush her teeth.
I asked my bf to accompany me to Singapore in May for a friend’s wedding, but he said, “Don’t want lah. Boring bah there.. nothing to do.” Cis. From your posts, it sounds like there’s SO MUCH to do!
I have a feeling that he’s afraid I’ll spend all the $$ on shopping saja…
Tell your boyfriend that Jewelle support his decision (jeles cos I didn’t get to shop as much)
LOL! But knowing you, for sure that is the ONE reason he is worried about
Sigh.. bila lah me and WC mau pigi Spore ni..
Don’t worry, Tiger Air is coming soon!
Besides shopping and eating, there’s lots to do and see in Singapore, it’s not as boring as people think.
Glad you enjoy your trip. The Singapore Flyer costs S$29.50 per person.
I definitely did not think Singapore is boring. I only regret that I missed some storytelling sessions for the kids, again! I’ll go on Singapore Flyer in my dreams only…
sorry, S$29.50…. type too fast.
I was also fascinated by Merlion
Singapore is one country I’d love to visit many times. I like the cleanliness of the country.
Btw, thanks for the visit, Jewelle. Have to catch-up reading more of your posts.
Clean and so easy to go around, 2 things that I like about Singapore. Thanks for dropping by!
Adddduuuuuhhhh.. I really wanna go Singapore.. especially this coming F1 night race. I pity wife. She’s no.1 F1 fan and she already got the sponsor to go. Maybe I just allowed her to go and me stay behind with the kids. Aduuuhh… thanks for all these pictures.. sia baca2 and tinguk2 ja lah.. coz could not afford to go there
Think positive PapaJ. You know Tiger Airways is coming so maybe can very cheap fare to go there soon ok? Sekarang ni kira research lah
hey!I remember I eat that wafer ice cream when i was little.Oh I really miss go to singapore.:)
Really? I have never seen this kind of ice cream before. I didn’t even see how the man made it! Sayang…
These wafer ice cream are also sold on Orchard Road and I would from time to time grab a bite. My daughter Jewel likes it too and she would normally be the first to suggest getting one.
On my last trip to Singapore (Dec 2007) I intended to bring the kids to this Merlion but we ended up at the Sentosa Merlion instead which is actually a lot more interesting that the iconic one.

And yes, there’s plenty to do in Singapore. If you enjoy photography, there’s even more than meets the eye. The same can also be said for practically any destination you’re going for the first time including your own!
I agree. There is plenty to do anywhere – as long as one is willing to be adventurous. We never stopped at the Sentosa Merlion but we’ll do that next time.
